Elliot: Barcelona and Real Madrid will be interested in Merino
Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino is believed to soon catch the attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid, according to goalkeeper Rob Elliot.
The 21-year-old made a permanent move to the English club since Borussia Dortmund’s loan at the start of the season and scored the winner over the weekend against Crystal Palace.
“Yes, I see Merino can be in a squad like Barcelona and Real Madrid, especially when considering his age,” Elliot told reporters.
“It’s only a matter of time before the top clubs come to see him, but we also want to be a big club.”
“We want him to stay here, we do not want to see one of our top players for sale again. He is a fantastic player, especially his good potential will be very important for Newcastle. ”
“Mikel has come and done a brilliant job, and this is great. so about his move to Newcastle permanently is the right thing. ”
“You can see from the looks of his talent. There’s no reason for him not to keep playing at the top. ”
Merino has appeared in all Magpies league games to date.
